Vevizye® Now Available at Edgbaston Eye Clinic for the Treatment of Dry Eye Disease

New Prescription Treatment for Patients with Moderate to Severe Dry Eye Disease

Edgbaston Eye Clinic is pleased to offer Vevizye® (Ciclosporin A 1mg/ml eye drops), a prescription-only treatment for adults suffering from moderate to severe dry eye disease whose symptoms have not improved sufficiently with artificial tears and lubricating eye drops alone.

Dry eye disease is one of the most common conditions seen in specialist ophthalmology clinics and can significantly affect quality of life. Patients often experience symptoms such as:

  • Burning or stinging eyes
  • Grittiness or irritation
  • Fluctuating vision
  • Excessive watering
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye fatigue when reading or using digital devices

While lubricating eye drops can provide temporary relief, they do not address the underlying inflammation that frequently contributes to chronic dry eye disease.

What is Vevizye®?

Vevizye® contains Ciclosporin A 1mg/ml, an immunomodulatory medication that helps reduce inflammation on the ocular surface. By targeting the inflammatory component of dry eye disease, Vevizye® can help improve tear film stability and enhance long-term ocular comfort.

Unlike artificial tears, which primarily lubricate the eye, ciclosporin works by addressing one of the root causes of chronic dry eye symptoms.

Who May Benefit from Vevizye®?

Vevizye® may be considered for patients with:

  • Moderate to severe dry eye disease
  • Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)
  • Ocular surface inflammation
  • Keratoconjunctivitis sicca
  • Sjögren’s syndrome-related dry eye
  • Persistent symptoms despite regular use of lubricants

A comprehensive assessment is required to determine whether Vevizye® is appropriate for your individual condition.
